Using bronzer is an excellent alternative to tanning and spray-on tanning. It all depends on what your preferences and ultimate goals. Traditional tanning subjects your skin to harmful UV rays, which can lead eventual skin cancer. You may also consider the spray-on tan or lotion options. These are good if you need to cover your whole body. But if you just want to add a little color to your face, or the sun-kissed look, a little facial bronzer is just the thing you need.
To start, you will need to choose a bronzer appropriate to you skin tone. Meaning, ideally you only want to go a few shades darker than your actual skin color. Going in a far extreme will make you skin look fake and unnatural. If you have light or fair skin, choose a bronzer with a honey color. For medium tones, go with a rose-bronze or gold colored bronzer. For dark skin tones, go with an amber or tawny colored bronzer.
To apply the bronzer, choose a wide and fluffy powder brush, preferably with a round tip. You want the brush to give an even blend, so if you choose a brush that is too stiff or too small, you may get some blotchy results. Invest in a quality brush, because you do get what you pay for.
To keep the bronzer from streaking, you need to apply a coat of base powder. This will help keep the sweat and oil from you skin from causing the bronzer to streak. When applying the bronzer, swirl the brush in the compact to evenly spread the bronzer. If you apply too much, just wipe off the extra on a tissue or towel. Lightly apply the bronzer to your forehead, nose, and cheeks. Ideally all of the areas of your face the sun would naturally hit. Slowly add layers and continue to check the bronzer’s appearance in actual sun light or daylight. If there is too much or it appears streaky, continue to blend.
